Then I can't believe you mix green with blue and white and red.
And then you are reluctant to throw the dirty ones away - you keep them in another little container!

Was it johnstone tiles which had the nibs on two sides instead of using spaces ? I remember tiling showers /kitchens in the early 90s with them on

Both H&R Johnsons and Pilkintons had lugs on the tile side for spacing. They then went to a sloped edge for spacing but of course this went against the principles of a joint so you still had to space them. Apart from matchsticks etc Homelux marketed the punched out plastic from their tile trims as spacers.
It was only when the continental tiles became popular that spacers made an appearance.

I use 2mm on walls and 3mm on floors, both depend on the quality and regularity of size of tile though.
Always use 3mm on planks on floor, although was asked to use 4mm on my last job, and looked really good with dark grout, helps with bowed tiles too.
