I know steam cleaning on stone tiles in a no no, Ive been tile 13 years seen lots of customers using steam cleaners on floors my wife even used one on our stone floor with no damaging effects over the last 10 years, Ive been looking at sx 15 to clean travertine and get dirt out the holes in it which cant be got by my agitation machine, question is the psi of a sx 15 is 2 or 3 times higher than a steam cleaner and also uses hot water but i cant find out what temp, why doesnt using this method damage the tiles like a steam cleaner will? i know steam is finer but its basically tiny droplets of water, the high pressure of sx 15 will surly penetrate stone? The reason I asked as went to look at a job and a science teacher quizzed me on this?
If only used say once every 5 years on a deep clean is a steam cleaner a option?

Maybe no one knows what you're actually talking about, you're quoting machinery that is not our normal everyday equipment.
Maybe if you give some information on the machinery that you're considering using it may help some.
If you're describing machinery that's more commonly used by a cleaning company, perhaps you could open a line of enquiry there too.
And of course we would be grateful of any information that may help us too.
If you've hit on an innovative idea, then you could enrich us all by sharing.
That'd be kool.

So basically the machinery you are talking about is like a karcher patio cleaner head ( big round thing with 2 high pressure nozzles spinning inside) only bigger more powerful and jet is very hot steam? IMO that is not going to be any good for any soft or filled stone and would stay well clear of using it!

Hi not sure what you mean by no one knows what im on about, do you mean a sx 15? or a steam cleaner? from what ive seen sx 15 is standard kit in tile cleaning and a steam cleaner is basic stuff?? Im talking about just a karcher steam cleaner with a nozzle that can clean trav holes out and extract the dirt, wanted to know why this causes a lot more damage than a sx 15 when a sx 15 is 4 times more powerful?

This section is the restoration and cleaning forum?? not fitting. Thats probably why you dont know what a hydroforce sx 15 is but alot of restoration and cleaners use them google it. If you dont know what it is fair enough, I just wanted to know from someone who uses one why it does not damage stone tiles like a steam cleaner does?

Then go to a cleaners forum.
If someone else on here uses one, they would have answered you.

Memebers don't ignore questions, and if you had any idea how this place worked, you wouldn't have even made that statement.
And having used the internal search engine for 'hydroforce sx 15' you may be really surprised to hear that yours is the ONLY post on it.

So it looks like you're wasting your time here with lowly installers.

If a travertine floor has holes and pock marks wouldn't you be better to repair with a suitable stone filler and refurbish then reseal. As they say if there's a hole in a wooden fence kicking it with a size 12 Doc Marten ain't going to repair it

Which statement? The heading for this section is cleaning and restoration! Im not saying post has been ignored maybe some members have not seen it yet?? Im 100% sure that someone will know what a sx 15 is.
Lowly installers? like i said on my first post i'm a tiler who has been tile 13 years so i'm also a lowly installer who is trying to expand my knowledge on tile restoration and I thought a tile cleaning and restoration forum maybe able to help.

Yes a travertine tile with holes can be filled with a resin but it needs to be cleaned out first thats what I am trying to find out why a steam cleaner is so bad compared to the sx 15.

Cleaned out first? You get specialist cleaners, brushes to gently clean out dirt and then you are going to scab it (poke and prepare) then Hoover out holes before filling as anymore loose material will come out don't need heavy machinery you would be better to invest in a good set of diamond pads.

Ive got diamond pads they wont touch a hole in trav? Im sure you know some trav has hundreds of holes with ingained dirt in thats why restoration companies use the sx 15, ive tested a steam cleaner and extracted and this cleans out holes well but less aggressively, my original question was will it damage the tile.
