Split face gaps, how to prevent - Tile Advice

Got a feature wall in split face stone tiles to do. Trouble is the tiles are different sizes which create unsightly gaps, more than usual. What's best way to avoid this without cutting every tile with the grinder? Im wedging gaps here and there but still get the odd 4/5mm gap, cheers

Lay them out on the floor and size them a row at a time, also brickbond or at least stagger the vertical joints looks better..
