Some where in the forum it actually says that beano has left ..i can't find the thread..but i'm sure someone said he got a better offer somewhere he couldn't refuse,,,

Some projects we did... i felt.. we didn't have enough time to finish them.

My comments are based on my experience off the course..the staff were excellant and i don't want to come across that they were to blame ..
the structure of the course to me was abit un organised ...ie timing of projects...not showing different cement bas materials (always ardex stuff..which i can't find a supllier where i'm from...lol)...not showing the use of a grinder which apperantly most tilers use....if you want to learn basic stuff in tiling then this course is for you ...thing is don't expect to be professional in a matter of four weeks ..."like i did" :(
the bays are kitted out with a bathroom and sink...no kitchen work tops no light switches...and you hardly ever tile a floor...and if you aint quick enough forget about grouting,,,,lol
also we didn't get any projects in mosaic tiling...maybe i expected to much from this course but this is only my opinion!!
if i were to mark it out of ten
7.5/10
not too bad eh...lol
to be honest it's a good stepping stone...but abit expensive
good luck!

hi devon mark

i was looking at learning how to skim as well as tiling..

how do you manage to combine the 2 trades. do they go hand in hand. i would have thought most people would want a tiler for tiling and a plasterer for plastering. i was worrying that it might make me look loike a jack of all trades to joe public.

in your opinion which does the better busines devon mark, the tiling or the plastering

thank

cro ps what do any of you other guys think, would combining the 2 look trades put customers off, any help appreciated regading this because i am going to book a plastering course soon and i will stick to the tiling and forget about plastering if its not the done thing

when you look at the big tiling firms they usually plaster as well..or plastering firms do tiling which ever way you look at it..the two trades do go together.........dave....

thanks for that dave,

you have put my mind at rest. can i ask your advice on my name, not going to oz now, cant leave good old blighty...

if i want to do tiling and plastering like markk devon, then would it sound ok in your opinion to call my self a renovation company

for ex i would call my business.......

ALPHA RENOVATION
tiling & plastering specialists

i want my website to have a catchy name so it would be www.alpharenovation.com

and then when you go to the home page, it would have 2 sections. tiling/plastering

i dont want to have 2 sets of advertising for everything and alpha tiling and plastering specialists is a bit of a mouthful.....so in your wise opinion, is alpha renovation, exepptable???

hope you can help on this one dave and mark

any views on the above name??

dave, mark devon?? anybody who does both??

is calling myself a renovation company the wrong thing to do. any views would be welcome. i have noticed in the tiling section of yell.c om that there are a few trendy names that leave it open for interpretation

want to get this right before i spend money on cards, websites adverts etc

I suspect that if you advertise as a "Renovation" company, people may expect you to do more than a bit of tiling and plastering.

I agree with grumpy, renovation is usually the full overhaul, walls knocked down and rebuilt, new staircases in etc etc. Not sure if that is true but it's what comes to my mind when I think of renovation companies.

Hi Croc,
I was plastering long before I did any tiling, I went on to do tiling because 98% of the bathroom and kitchen walls that I was plastering were for them to be tiled.
My business name is Plastering & Tiling Solutions....say's what I do.

In answer to your question..yes they do go hand in hand..at times, I work the two different aspects of the business as the work comes in, this week I'm tiling a bathroom next week I'm ripping down a ceiling, reboarding and skimming, the week after I'm rendering the exterior of a house (weather permitting).
I think the work that comes in is pretty much even...plastering and tiling..though I can make more money plastering I prefer to tile simply because I enjoy it more.
Not so sure on the renovation bit....you may be expected to do more than plastering and tiling.
Hope this helps a bit, good luck whatever you decide..Mark.
