Overboarding walls for tiling - Tile Advice

Hiya.

In a few months we plan to rip the bathroom out and redo the lot. As I need the practice and want to get everything right, I am going to reboard all the walls with Marmox, tile it and get a plumber to fit a new bath suite.

The stud walls shouldn't be a problem. Take all the old plasterboard down, add a few noggins and screw the marmox in.

But there is also an external window wall. When the old tiles come off, it will be plaster on [i guess] rendered breeze block. What is the best procedure to fix the marmox? Does the plaster need to come off completely, or can I just screw through the plaster and anchor it into the block behind?

Not looking to cut any corners and don't mind any messy work as long as its done right.

If the plaster is loose hack off, if not leave and give the walls a primer.
Cut board to size, use a flex addy and dab blobs of addy onto the the rear of the marmox boards about every 300mm on the larger pieces.
Press board onto wall and leave to set, plug and screw through to the breeze wall with the washers where the dabs have set (not any other area of the board) so you don't drag the boards in.

If not a wetroom , then personally woudnt waste the wonga , PB tanked in wet areas would suffice .. unless of course your exceeding weight limit ..

Cost isn't an issue as i'll get the boards through work.

Not a wet room but still got a shower over the bath. But saying that, need practice at tanking too so i could do the plaster board. Tile weight also not a problem. Got my eye on an 8mm 60x40 trav effect....... unless the missus decides on the real thing, in which case would feel more at ease with marmox.

Plasterboard fitted the same way? Dab and plug?

Nope , PB dabbed with dryline adhesive. I take your pount on practise but imho over the top prep.. but if you feel the need , then go for it .

Dot and dab plasterboard out of the wet area, and fix your marmox board in the wet area and slightly beyond, that's superior to tanked plasterboard

Just remortgage and line everything with 20mm kerdi-board!
