How to tile onto water ufh - Tile Advice

Hi,

I am tiling into a Concrete floor, then 25 mm fibre board, water based ufh and 6mm ply! Rang Bal tech and they won't guarantee it or recommend any adhesives. Does anyone on here have any ideas?

What do you mean by fibre board do you mean mdf . Also 6mm ply is just about useless for anything

Forget 6mm ply. That's just plain crazy! Either level over the pipes and fibre board with 6mm of quality leveler, or fix 6mm cement boards with a flexible adhesive.

I've used it before to overlay polypipe boards and I've had no issues. I used ditra over that too for extra peace of mind.

So if I scrap the 6mm ply, fix 6mm hardibacker, then some ditra mat, I should be sweet to go?

that's good Mark, how you know it was poypipe boards from the description?

If it's a heavy gypsum type fireboard then a 6mm SLC over the top will be the best way to go. Give you a solid base to work from and also encapsulates the UFH Pipes allowing better transfer of heat.

Check with the manufacturer first R:E using SLC, if it is anything like Polypipe they don't like you using it over the top of the panels because they say it can dislodge the pipe and (I'm not 100% on this) but I believe doing so can invalidate your warranty.

From working closely with our manufacturing partners we've established that a self levelling compound over our panels is fine to do. Our fibre panels are the only ones manufactured to be stuck down and are recommended to be stuck down, unlike polypipe systems who are just laid flat before tiling.

Are your panels fermacell / Gypsum firbreboard too Jake?
And you're right, a lot of people who buy Polypipe off us regularly fix it down with adhesive or screws for additional stability.
I could never understand the rationale of the SLC dislodging pipe as it is such a snug fit.. No doubt that being able to apply levelling compound over the top is so much easier and better for the installer.

Our panels are indeed a gypsum fireboard, with built in end returns so no hassle of the extra panels to be fitted or worried about.
