Great read, thanks Oli!

Quick question on trowels... will I need 4 for my bathroom? as follows

1) Thin solid bed trowel for the two walls around my wet room tray
2) 10mm notched for the rest of the walls (all boarded but studs are old and wont be plumb straight
3) 4mm mosaic trowel for laying 30cmx30cm mosaic sheets on a wet room tray
4) 12mm notch for the floor

that right?

cheers
Dave :)

my bathroom walls have been painted some of which was flakey ive scraped all the really loose stuff then pva'd[before id read the great advice on hear] should i paint then prime or rub and sand back to bear plaster or just cry? ive had problems with the paint blowing in other rooms which is why i pva'd! any advice of course would be truely welcome.

Are you going to tile the walls and if so what size and type are you proposing? Tiling onto paint isn't good it should be at least cross hatched scored off to ensure a good adhesive bond then primed with acrylic bonding ready to accept the tile adhesive.
I hope this helps
