Mr Tiler

been watching a few videos on shower areas the americans seem to like buying matching bullnose tiles instead of trim/mitred tile. how often would you say it is used over here?

It was very popular back in the day to have RE and REX on 4" tiles and on some of the 6" but they stoped making them. It's a shame really as they do look good.

Did a full bullnose to 50mm curved coping round a kidney shaped pool once using a grinder and graded diamond pads.made a 50 radius gauge from plywood as a guide .
Also did this curved wall to jacuzzi with just a polisher and using a plywood template with slightly bigger radius to one I made to run the fence of routing machine for bullnose above.
the tiles we used were reduced in width so not so much to grind off flat tiles to get a curve.
same principle as bull nosing with grinder and pads.
also helped that both stones were quite soft.
pictures below were using sanded brabazon frech limestone very easy to get similar to factory face finish.it is the only stone which we grind down on site when going round the internal corners .dont need to put a mitre in . just bone the tiles in together and grind off any high spots afterwards

When Johnsons stopped doing re & rex they started making what they called universal tiles which you butted but I know there was a few problems with the tiles failing I think it was due to expansion,The plain,re & rex moulds were sold to a tile makers in Sri Lanka think they were called Dando white,They were a really good tile, the company I worked for in the 80s used them all the time.
