Default wetroom advice

Hi everyone, im new to the this forum and would like some advice.

For the first time im putting in an aquadec in an upstairs ensuite on timber floors. The joists are slightly out of level and was just wondering how you would solve this problem. Also the walls have been rendered on two sides with aquapanel on the third side, i was going to tank these, (although not strictly necessary as far as i know). I assume this would be ok. Finally, to accomodate the gradiant on the aquadec, what is the biggest tiles anyone has used. Im thinking of using mosaics but was wondering if there was any other options so as to avoid all the grout lines towards the drain and cutting etc.

thanks for your advice.

Ern

Hi Ern

I am assuming the floor is weyroc as you havnt said otherwise so would advise the following for your setup , if you need further advice then dont hesitate to call me.

The weyroc would need overboarding with 12mm ply screwed down at 150/200 centres. When you have a good surface mark out the base shape to be cut out. When cut out follow the aqua-dec instructions found HERE. The ply you remove can be reused to underlay the base so wont be wasted and will bring it back to floor hight.

When the base is screwed and secure then lay your waterproof membrane, you have not said if you have tilesafe but if not I would recomend the Durabase WP membrane and flexible tapes to ensure a good seal of the floor.

As you have a cement board on your wall and your correct they dont need waterproofing I would to keep with the system and ensure a thorough job line the showering area with the same Durabase WP which doesnt break the bank and gives top results.

As for your floor in the shower area, mosaic is by far the prefered method as it will lay easily with your gradients although this is possible with bigger tiles. If using bigger tiles then care will need to be taken at angle cuts as these edges can be sharp.

Hope this gets you going

Cheers

Hi Tiler, thanks for the reply.

At the minute there is no floor. I took up the old chipboard and am now addressing the problem of levelling the joists. I was going to use wedged feathing strips to bring them level then 18mm WBP ply. Iwas going to use the tilesafe membrane which the aquadec manufacturers recomend. I presume this would be ok.

I cant say im familiar with weyrock can you enlighten me?

All the best - Ern

Weyroc is just chip board.

If you want a sturdier shower base former that doesnt need to be under plyed then we have the best there is ! You dont have to use tilesafe which its far dearer than our product ( Durabase WP ) is much easier to work with and does the same job. Have a look on our site
