Default green screeds on floors

Hi All

I've been asked to tile a downstairs shower room, the floor has to be made up of cement & sand & the 3 brick walls will be rendered with i'm guessing a cement based render by the plasterers. The customer wants me to tile straight onto the cement screeded floor, now i understand that it's the right practise to leave the floor to dry out for 1 week per inch of screed to let all the water out of the screed,is this correct? My other option would be to use a green screed addy like the one bal sell right? Also if the walls are skimmed with a cement based rendering product would the same time rule apply to the walls?

thanks in advance matthew

Hi matt....It would be cheaper to use Ditra mat.........it is a vapour equalisation mat as well as an uncoupling mat...and you can tile onto green screeds as soon as they can be walked on........Schluter-DITRA can be used for wall and floor coverings. Anchor plugs may be used with wall tiling if necessary.just depends on what tile is being used..........BAl green screed is quite expensive compared to ditra...just another option mate.............

good luck..............

Thanks dave will look into that. The floor is only about 2 square meters, so its not a very large amount of matting or addy either way.

Hi Mat

If you look here you will find the product we would advise for use on new concrete floors where cracking might occur due to shrinkage etc

Wetdecs Durabase CI Matting

This membrane also acts as a waterproof barrier, other items for the wetroom might also be of use but especially the Tilux showertray former for concrete floors.

Any further help you might need then call us
