Default Ground floor wet room

Hi all. Never done a wet room before so need some advice.

I'm installing one on the ground floor of a barn conversion. Ideally I would like the shower floor level with the rest of the floor.

The area for the shower will be 'up to' 1000mm x 'a fixed' 800mm, with a suitable glass screen to the 1000mm side.

I have a 40mm waste set within 90mm Celotex, with a couple of knuckle bends to bring it just above the insulation.

The floor screed will add 90mm and ideally I want to keep the shower floor at the same height.

Can anyone advise on the best solution for forming the shower floor area?

Will I need to tank the walls and floor of the shower area? (I've never done that with any other 'normal' shower installation)

I've looked at Impey Aqua grade, which almost fits the bill but I don't think the trap will fit within my floor dimensions.

Thanks in advance.

Daniel

Hi Daniel

I'm around to try and answer any questions you might have on wetroom solutions but can I suggest you take a quick look at the (link) tilux wetroom shower base (link) as well as others on our site to get some ideas and possibly go from there.

Thanks for that. Both concrete floor solutions look to be suitable. As it is effectively new build do you think there is a need to use the CI matting, or will flexible adhesive and grout be just as good?

I'm guessing that the fall on the trays will be approximately 10mm from edge to center, which would only leave approximately 60mm to the c/l of the 40mm waste. Can you recommend a horizontal trap that would fit within that dimension? The base of the trap could be cut into the underlying insulation but the height of the waste is already fixed.

Thanks

Daniel

You would use Durabase WP on the wall area the use of Durabase CI mat with concrete leans more towards preventing cracking of tiles due to screed movement on a new build.

The gradient is 2% in the top surface. The total instal height of the tilux base is around 100/110 mm depending on base used so your trap should work within your confines.

Have a look here daniel :

We considered having a wet room with the usual "flat floor walk in shower" but because it was located on the groud floor concrete floor (and would need to be kango'd) I bottled out and just raised the floor as a step up.

The main floor is below ground by six inches so is already semi tanked anyway and I worried digging it out may have cause water ingress.

Not as elegant I know but thought it worth sharing the alternative.

We already had bought the floor drain and supposedly it was going to collect everything on the floor in the room. But now we raised the shower floor the drain has become part of the shower install.

The main floor has no drain so the water just has to dry off naturally like a standard bathroom.

I know its not the answer to your question but I thought I would post it up to give others so alteratives for wet rooms where you just cant get the plumbing down low enough.

PS: once we decided on this compromise it cut down the labour, the costs and the materials. I guess its still cheating and not a "Flat level wet room"
