    Default Tanking kits

    Hi all,

After a little advice on tanking kits.

I will be soon tiling the walls around the shower and want to tank first.

I was going to use the weber.sys system.

My walls are currently about 3 years old and are painted.

The condition is very good. I attempted to sand down at the weekend. Made a big mess and no paint seemed to come off.

Can I apply the weber tanking system direct onto the painted walls and then tile?

    Help is greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks
    Simon

    Hi Simoo69,
I'm doing something similar at the moment. I'm using the Mapei gum and Mapei band. Called their tech support for advise on painted walls.
Their advise was rough up the paint with sandpaper and apply Primer G. This is a product that promotes adhesion of the product. Maybe a call to weber and they may have something similar

    Hi Rich,

Thanks for the advice. Rang weber and they said try and rough the surface up as much as possible!

In a last ditch attempt Ive just been to my local plant hire depot and borrowed a heavy duty sander with the roughest sand paper for tonight!

Give it one last go but I can see me making a proper mess!

    Cheers
    Simon

    Hi,

Went ok thanks. Got enough paint off the walls and now have applied the weber tanking kit.

Ordered tiles and due to start tiling this week.

Fair to say the sanding made a bit of a mess but managed to get it all cleaned up ok.

    Cheers
