Sealing the grout will not make it waterproof.
Wasn't your name Jane or am I mixing you up with someone else? Don't even THINK of not tanking the wall, (or not having it tanked) hoping that any grout or sealed grout will make things waterproof, it won't. There is no other answer, at all.
Being a bloke ,jane doesnt really suit me (my name is julian or jools. hence judge ) Im only going on other threads ive read. They said providing the silicone and grout was installed properly and as the shower is directing away from the wall it should be fine .Im a little confused now ???

What's the substrate? Plasterboard, plywood or solid scratched or skimmed?
If it's not solid it's advisable to tank. Solid then a good installation would work IMO.
Iv seen plenty of solid Walls with no tanking and no problems.

sorry, obviously a mix up. Are you telling me that when under the shower the water won't bounce off the person who is having a shower and splash onto the wall? I have a P shaped shower bath that is wider than a usual bath at the shower end and that half of the walls still get wet (now no cracks about me being curvy please,
but also the steam and condensation all add up, I have no idea who would have told you that it's ok not to tank shower walls?
Just realised, the football is starting, it'll probably be quiet on here now...![]()

I put some photo's up on the forum somewhere..I tiled a bathroom and grouted using grey grout, then customeGrout colorant, Sevenoaks 004.jpgr changed her mind so i used this to change it to white. Quite new here in the Uk but have used it on several jobs now and it is really good gear.Grout colorant, Sevenoaks 001.jpg
