Discuss best stuff to use for new shower cubicle in the Tanking & Wetrooms at TilersForums; hi all am re-tiling a kitchen and installing a new bathroom and tiling too. ripped out the old shower and tiles and plasterboard which was rotten at the shower tray ...

    Default best stuff to use for new shower cubicle

    hi all am re-tiling a kitchen and installing a new bathroom and tiling too. ripped out the old shower and tiles and plasterboard which was rotten at the shower tray whats my best way to replace this should i just use plasterboard again and tank before tiling whats the best way of tanking the walls and shower tray

    Where the rotten board was is it stud work and what tiles will you be fixing back in the shower.

    if you use ceramic tiles, plasterboard and tanking should be fine, if porcelain or stone I'd use something like wedi, marmox ettc in the wet areas, (make sure you tape the joints) and hardiebacker 500 in the non-wet areas

    just going to be cheapest white ceramic tiles 150x150 plasterboard was on stud work was tanked at the shower tray with bitumen felt stuck onto 6mm ply about 300mm up from the tray

    , dispense with the ply and felt, just tank the plasterboard with something like dural wp

    Then as Doug says.... Plasterboard and tank will be fine, but make sure you use an SPF addy for the tanking and tiles.

    Make sure the timber stud work is dried out before fixing new plasterboard, that will drag any moisture into the new board from the timber.

    I tank walls before tray is fitted the bed side of tray with silicone to create seal against the tanking. No need to tank floor under tray.

    i will take that as a no then haha thanks for all the help guys you,ve been great, only asked if should be under shower tray cos thats what i took out today thbitumen felt was lapped onto the underside of the tray first time i'd seen this but felt it best aking you guys as whoever did this it didnt do any good as the pb was still wet

    I use a polymer tube stuff between the tray and tanking, about £9 a tube though.

    not my project i'm afraid its a rented out flat that belongs to my cousins boss hence the cheapo tiles , but do have plans to do some tiling in my own kitchen and bathroom when i get the chance
