What type of tiles are you putting up first....

Re: best stuff to use for new shower cubicle
if you use ceramic tiles, plasterboard and tanking should be fine, if porcelain or stone I'd use something like wedi, marmox ettc in the wet areas, (make sure you tape the joints) and hardiebacker 500 in the non-wet areas

Then as Doug says.... Plasterboard and tank will be fine, but make sure you use an SPF addy for the tanking and tiles.

Re: best stuff to use for new shower cubicle
Make sure the timber stud work is dried out before fixing new plasterboard, that will drag any moisture into the new board from the timber.

I tank walls before tray is fitted the bed side of tray with silicone to create seal against the tanking. No need to tank floor under tray.

Re: best stuff to use for new shower cubicle
I use a polymer tube stuff between the tray and tanking, about £9 a tube though.

well enjoy the free reign on your choice of tiles, I can't even get a look in or opinion when it comes to doing our bathroom (next project
