Marmox install - tanking required?
Hi All,
Just wanted to say hi and thanks in advance, recently joined this forum. I`m gathering info for a wetroom install. Been researching this site which is easily the most comphrehensive source for wet rooms on the net. So here`s my plan to install my wet room or wet area in my bathroom:
bathroom - 1st floor - stud walls - timber joists 2.3m x 4.2m
- marmox showerlay 1000 x 1000 to be installed in one corner of room, level to joists, supported with 18m ply between joists. Stuck down with Adrex X7 W adhesive.
- existing floorboards around tray and in rest of room to be overboarded with 6m marmox, stuck down with same adhesive and screws / washers.
- marmox self adhesive waterproof tape (expensive stuff, £50 odd quid for 10m!) applied around showerlay and up walls in wet area around the shower head.
- rest of joints joined with scrim tape and pasted over with adhesive.
Current situation
Have removed plasterboard from walls and bought showerlay, marmox, dallmer drain, adhesive, waterproof tape, scrim tape, screws washers (about £600). Pulled up floor boards. Waiting for plumber
Aiming at
Having a glass screen, 1.2m, with small 200m return? in shower area, parrallel to the short wall. complete floor will be tiled with big rectangular tiles
Questions
- Does this sound like a good idea?
- Do I still need to tank the area as the marmox is punted as waterproof?
- does that adhesive sound ok for this job?
- what about the water that gets splashed past the former falls area?
- any recommendations on grout?
Thanks again guys, i`ll post some pics and let you know how things go as I move on.

Re: Marmox install - tanking required?
marmox may be waterproof but cement based grout CG2 is not, you can use epoxy grout but it is recommended to do tanking anyway. For surface with tanking you should use C2 class adhesive, ardex x7w is C1 TE so may not be suitable.

Re: Marmox install - tanking required?
I am sorry, i made idiot out of myself. Language mistake, i thought that marmox is merble imitation, today in building store i have noticed that marmox is same as wedi etc, so you dont need tanking
but use at least c2 class adhesive. I am sorry again.

Re: Marmox install - tanking required?
Hi
I'm looking to install a wet area with a screen in a bathroom + UFH and have a couple of questions regarding floor strength and Marmox products.
It's a first floor installation on a chipboard floor. The chipboard floor is a little bouncy so i need to deal with that first, my thoughts are 1, take up the chipboard and strengthen with extra noggins etc and then 18mm+ ply and Marmox brd, or just leave the chipboard as it is and over lay with the Marmox board and hope it strengthens it up???? How much will the Marmox board strengthen the floor??
I dont want to cut corners but also dont wont to over kill the job.
The question on the Marmox product is once its laid over the floor and the joints are taped is that it all waterproofed for tiling? or will it require waterproof mating aswell?
Any advice greatly appreciated
