    Default SBR enough or tanking?

    Hello you lovely people!!
    How's life at the top?
I'm doing a job for a friend, paid for (the job not the friend!). He bought the tiles to do it himself about 2 years ago and ripped off half the existing tiles from above the bath (with stand-up shower). I have removed the rest, but the area that was already removed is very damp and a bit mildewy (is that a word?). Thought about giving it a good scrub, leaving to dry and priming/sealing with sbr? Thought about tanking but v much doubt they will want to pay for it unless vital. Already had to remove a fair bit of loose plaster which I may need to reskim before tiling as substrate underneath is sand/cement and very dusty. (I will definitely have to learn to look at these jobs more carefully before agreeing a price!) Should make a nice before/after photo though as it looks rough as hell now!!

I would go for tanking, I will probably have been beaten to this by the speed typists

Any loose finishing plaster should be scrapped off, Thin down the sbr to 4-1 and soak the dusty sand/cement with it..

The finish will be only 2-3mm thick so don't waste your time plastering if your tiling on top, if they won't pay for the tanking use another coat of sbr 3-1 and apply over the areas your going to tile.

Use a good powdered adhesive and grout

Just with the tiling, Phil? That's not what I heard! Going to tile the lot was just concerned about the wet / mildewy bit. I've already taken all loose plaster off. Any chance th elidew could spread and loosen the addy (as it does with masonry paint) or is it best to fungicide it first?
