    Cool Wetroom vinyl flooring corners

    Hi folks,
Im in the process of creating my first wetroom with vinyl flooring instead of tiles. The vinyl (Altro saftery flooring) has been laid by a subcontractor and looks fine. My only dissapointment was the corners, which I expected to be welded like the seam running up the middle of the floor but instead it seems to have been sealed with your bog standard tranclucent mastic. I am worried that in time this might discolour or even leak but the flooring fitter said welding of corners is not normally done due to possiblility of scorching vinyl in corners which would look messy. Having said that they are going to reseal corners with a colour coded mastic which should look better. Anyone flooring experts out there that could give me some advice, also is this something I could train up on and do myself in future or is it best to leave to the experts?

your fitter is talking rubbish corners are all ways welded with matching colour.i have recently done a large nursing home all vinyl flooring, they lay all the vinyl leaving a small joint in the corners . then a team would come round and weld all the joints, dont let him tell you other wise:if you look in my albums theres one with prime life nursing home, one of the pics shows the joint they left in the corner , wish id took pics after they welded the joint

Not to wind you up here, but that is bleedin' awful, did he put any coving behind that as well? There should be a 38mm pvc coving to get a nice round shape up the wall.

Hi the layer has tarted to fob you off all wetrooms are sealed with a weald which you get in the same colour as the floor I have never left a wetroom unwealded there is also a new non-slip floor for wetrooms which does not have the nipples on them which makes for easy cleaning

This is an old post mate. lol

I have come across many installations where floor layers seal the internal corners with sealant. Altro sell a sealant that matches each range which is normally used for altro installations and if I remeber right this stuff sell at approx £10 a tube and that was 4 or 5 years ago. Thats probs why they guy used a non matching sealant.

Whilst many guys are taking the quick and easy way of sealing internal cove formed joints with sealant I agree that it is by far the best way when compared to hot welded joints.

The contract flooring game is all about working fast and thats why we get many corners cut. I worked in the industry myself for a number of years and was an apprentice when I left school. We even cut our ply with stanley knifes to save time.

I am doing them for westminster council at the mo so all of them I have to make sure are 120% I replayed to that post with out looking at the date but yer some people use the tube sealing but it can split and leak easy from wear and tear its why I only use the hot Weald

Sadly they are not always welded but I agree they should be. Causes me problems especially when they then use steam cleaning or mop and bucket and the corners let the water not the screed...... Nightmare.

Agree with Nybor don't let this cowboy fob you off.
