Re: recommendations for backerboards plss
Hardi for floors is the hardi 250 which is 6mm and hardi 500 12mm for walls.
Wedi/pecidur then i would say 10mm minimum for either wall or floor.
The fixing method is slightly different as hardi is screws straight into the boards on the floor and walls and the others require screws and special washers.

Re: recommendations for backerboards plss
thx dave
re wedi/pecidur boards-where do i get these products and do the shops also sell washers?
i am in perth/dundee scotland
anyone know of stockists/cost etc
as i am also using homelux membrane-is it overkill to use wedi or pecidur
is it ok to use hardibacker(reading forums -differences of water passing through) or would one recommend the others
thx

Re: recommendations for backerboards plss
For a fully water tight installation then yes it needs tanking..
Aquapanel - Drywall for Wet Areas
What happens when water gets behind tiles?
Traditional backing boards will quickly deteriorate and will need to be replaced.
Aquapanel retains its strength in damp conditions and can be fully immersed in water with no loss of performance, or tiles.
Peace of mind for you and your clients - with a 10 year guarantee Aquapanel cement board is an extremely durable tile backer providing a solid substrate for wet indoor areas such as bathrooms, shower rooms and wet rooms. Resistant to mould and mildew, Aquapanel will not deteriorate in water. It retains its strength even if fully immersed. A purpose designed tile backing board, Aquapanel solves the problems experienced when traditional backing materials get wet. So no more costly call backs to replace rotten or damaged boards. Aquapanel Screws ensure a quick and easy installation with no special tools required. Aquapanel is ready keyed to take tiles up to 50 kg/m2 as soon as the boards are installed.

Re: recommendations for backerboards plss
Hardi and Aqua panel will only let water through the joints so these have to be tanked

Re: recommendations for backerboards plss
hi guys
will look at the prices of wedi vs pecidur
(felt the pecidur-seems very light-will they hold up heavy marble tiles?)
if prohibitive then gat aquapanel or hardibacker then maybe use pci lastogum then tank with homelux and marble tile
think problem is too many combinations available and difficult to make up our minds

Hi mate,
I noticed you said you purchased grey ahdesive. Many people preffer to use a white adhesive for marble as grey can shadow through marble and other lighter stone tiles.
You might be fine but, I would probs try to exchange for a white one.
Someone mentioned Tiler Giant to you already, I know they do the aquapanel and they also do the keraquick adhesive in white which would be ideal. if you are worried about water, I agree that a tanking kit would be the best option. You can get them from Mapei or BAL stocked at Tile Giant(mapei) or Topps(BAL)

Re: recommendations for backerboards plss
re the grey adhesive-it will be used to put tanking membrane to the boards
the white stone adhesive will be used between stone and membrane if that makes sense
1)also are aquapanel and hardieback boards in same league in terms of water resist, weight of tiling etc??
2)and is pecidur/wedi boards similar to each other
in terms of better watere resist capacity but can still hold heavy tiles
