Duchy premium shower tray
Hi,
Has anyone used the Duchy Premium Showertray, the price seems good, plus you dont have to support it underneath. Can anyone offer feedback on them??
I posted here a while ago and received some very useful feedback on my idea for doing a raised wet room with led lights around the plinth. Bascailly I have decided not to go down that route. I have just lost my job and now have some free time on my hands until a new job comes around - and titching to make a start. But dont want to make a costly mistake either!
Im really looking for a good quality and cheap wet room former that doesnt require supporting underneath (I have a lot of pipes underneath that would have to be moved)
Also my intention was to just marine ply the original floorboards and tile over. But now i read that I should waterproof the floor with a matting system. Im not really sure I would need to do this? I intend to use a 1200 x 1200 tray and cant imagine alot of water will be splashed about outside the tray area. I think I read that this matting also prevents grouting cracking on the floor (when the ply expands and contracts), however I have never had this problem in the kitchen underneath the bathroom. Should I defo use this matting system, and can anyone recommend a good cheap one?
Many thanks again. FWIW I am keen DIY'er but no knowledge of doing a bathroom. But have done tiling etc before.

Re: Duchy premium shower tray
Sorry guys, I have just realised that the Duchy platform is for vinyl only! I am looking to tile my former.
So are there any alternatives than the aquadec or tuff2, which dont require support underneath>

Re: Duchy premium shower tray
ok, while ive got your attention!
I also need to drill a hole in one joist to take the waste pipe outside to the stack. Is it ok to drill a 4 1/2" hole in a 3x7 joist??

Re: Duchy premium shower tray
I can only recommend the Tuff2 tray.. it is very strong and easy to install.
And NO you cannot cut a hole like that through a joist.

Re: Duchy premium shower tray
Thanks, for advice. Ive found out the diameter for drain for the aqua dec is 9cm, so if I turn the former 90o it should fall behind the joist (just) to gain access outside (all other joists run to a roof void of a kitchen extention).
Just a side thought. I plan to use isolator valves on the feeds for the shower, bath etc. Since I plan to tile the whole floor and all the walls etc, I cant think of where to place the isolators for the shower mixer and wall mounted sink (bath - inside the bath panel obviously) where I could get access them without hacking up tiles. Where does everyone else put them??

Don't use the cheap ones, you need, full bore valves so you don't restrict the flow
