Hi,

First time poster here. I'm looking to build a wetroom with a slight difference.

Firstly a big thank you to the people responsible for making this such a great site. I've learnt so much just by reading other peoples questions and the replies given.

I've searched the internet for examples of something similar to my idea, but have never found any! This has started to worry me a little, that maybe my idea is daft!

I want to use a marmox shower tray (or similar), but lay this on a 5-6" high wooden carcass frame layed on the joists in the corner of the bathroom - so the shower will be raised above the floor of the rest of the bathroom. I then plan to install a few LED's on both sides of the visible edges to act as low level lighting. A glass screen will then be fixed to one edge of the tray to limit the amount of splash water. Does this seem to be a reasonable design to attempt??

The couple of things that concern me are:
1, I want to use underfloor heating on both the shower tray and the rest of the bathroom floor. Ive never had this type of heating before. Is it possible to run these heating elements over a step? ie use one continuous run of heating pipe/cable across the tray and then onto the rest of the floor?
2, I am planning on using a 90 x 90 size tray. Will a significant amount of water drip over the edge of the step (on the side without a screen) onto the floor? Just thinking that if you stand in the middle of the tray and stretch your arm out water may run off your arm? Should I try to use a 90 x 120 tray instead? Although I would prefer not to.

Bad idea

Water spray will come out of a 90x90 or 90x120 with only a single piece of glass, Will need a gulley set into floor to collect water

I'm with simhopper on this, water will spray into the other area and you will end up with a big problem if you go down this route, also ufh is perfect for wet rooms if it is installed properly, I dont think you will be able to use 1 system to go from the normal floor upto the raised floor as the cable should not/will not bend at right angles.

You would have to use 2 seperate cables or mats 1 for the tray area and 1 for the main floor area, which would work out rather expensive and you would need to ensure there is space in your mains unit for the extra circuits.

So is 90 x 120 still to small if I forget the raised platform idea and still only have a glass screen on one side?

Im hoping that underfloor heating will help dry the rest of the floor that has any drips on it (outside the tray area)

The last 900x1200 we did sprayed everywhere and ended up changing to a larger 900x1400 tray that sat between walls

What type of shower will you be using?

I have a combi boiler so it will be a Thermostatic mixer.
