    Default waterproofing showers

went to look at bathroom re tiling job.customers had problem of water from shower getting behind tiles.,in my opinion simply caused by old age and perished grout in places which could have been rectified but was left and went on to cause more serious problems.so they ask advice initially at tile shop.they explain its only a small area but the helpful assistant sells em a £70 roll of waterproofing membrane and a £30 bag of adhesive to stick it.guess he didnt know the walls had to be primed cos he didnt sell them any.my opinion is for low pressure showers, waterproofing is unnecessary providing job is done right eg.siliconebath or shower, lay tiles, silicone again and always silicone corners top to bottom, use decent addy and grout.anyway, they were talked into the need for waterproofing so i enquired at my own suppliers and offered them a latex kit at£45.unfortunately they had opened it so they are stuck with it.sorry for going on a bit,but i get annoyed when i see people being ripped off.question is for anyone who uses this stuff(as i know its great for some wet areas)is it okay to stick with my tubbed addy without any primer.
ps i knowsomeone will say i should use cement based but i wont be as i have never had any comebacks over any showers i have tiled so any advice is appreciated

You cannot use a dispersion adhesive for tanking membranes...

    Cement based fast set....

If a shower is grouted in a none epoxy based grout and is used more than twice a day then IMHO it should be tanked as the grout never gets chance to dry out and this is when ingression sets in..
But in all honest opinion...If ALL showers were tanked then insurance comps would save a fortune....Any area that is a wet area...should be tanked under Bs regs IMHO..

A customer deserves a long lasting problem free installation..

Waterproofing is necessary either low pressure or a power shower.

Don't use the tanking system with tubbed gear.

Why do think they were being ripped off, they sold them homelux by the sound of it.

If your'ed some of the disasters I've had to put right you would have a different view on tanking
