Tuff2 + UFH
I have received conflicting advice on how to tile a tuff2 former with UFH and Dura CI uncoupling membrane.
The wetroom floor adjoining the tray is 18mm WBP ply with 3mm Dura CI membrane. Adding 1mm for adhesive, this brings the floor level to the 22mm depth of the tray. The supplied UFH kit is sufficient to tile the whole wetroom floor area and the Dura membrane supplied is sufficient to cover only the floor area. It was therefore understood that the UFH should be laid on top of the membrane and tray, screeded and then tiled (plan is to use 45mm x 5mm Waxman mosaics).
However, it has been suggested that UFH should not be laid directly on the tray and that the membrane should extend over the tray area. If the latter suggestion were to be correct, then the floor levels would be out by 4mm. Also, I suspect the added thickness to the tray may impact on the falls built into the tray.
It would be good to hear from anyone with experience of this type of installation.

Re: Tuff2 + UFH
I tend to use dural wp on the tuff2 trays as it is easier to get good contact as it is thinner...you can use the ufh on the tray but i would screed it in with flexi adesive rather than trying to slc it.
There is a good fall rate on the tuff2 trays and you won't loose this by floating in the ufh...in theory all you will be doing is increasing the tray height by the ufh thickness.
And by using the dural wp on the tray then this will not effect heights..it is only 0,5mm thick.

The wetroom floor adjoining the tray is 18mm WBP ply with 3mm Dura CI membrane(providing the floor is 18/22mm wpb screwed at 2/300 centres you could use Dura-wp which is easier to handle and make good to gulley as Dave says). Adding 1mm for adhesive, ( 3mm would be closer)this brings the floor level to the 22mm depth of the tray. The supplied UFH kit is sufficient to tile the whole wetroom floor area and the Dura membrane supplied is sufficient to cover only the floor area. It was therefore understood that the UFH should be laid on top of the membrane and tray, screeded and then tiled (plan is to use 45mm x 5mm Waxman mosaics).( I would not recomend ufh on the former for the simple reason if you get a drainage problem and the tray needs to come up you will lose all the ufh )
However, it has been suggested that UFH should not be laid directly on the tray and that the membrane should extend over the tray area. If the latter suggestion were to be correct, then the floor levels would be out by 4mm. Also, I suspect the added thickness to the tray may impact on the falls built into the tray.

Hope this helps

Re: Tuff2 + UFH
My thanks to Dave and Wetdec's for your help and suggestions.
Wetdec's - have been trying to contact you but without success.
Can you supply UFH + Dura WP fairly quickly as re-work on the wetroom starts tomorrow?
Also, when the tiles currently on the tray are ripped up, will the drain need to be re-sealed, or should the existing seal remain intact?

Re: Tuff2 + UFH
Standing on the Tuff2 as a check before beginning to tile, there is a slight flex between the drain and the drain-end of the tray. There is no movement along the perimeter or around the drain, (where additional support noggins have been fixed). Is the slight flex normal or should I take down part of the ceiling to fix further supports?

Re: Tuff2 + UFH
You should check the level from joist to joist...if you still have flex then just screw it down within the trtay area it's self to a nogging and then tank the whoie tray with Dural wp..this can be quicker than messing shaving a couple mm here and there..
I tank the tray all the time ..over kill maybe to some but IMHO wetrooms are never overkill on tanking...once tiled it is too late then.
