Default Tanked Travertine Shower Problems

The shower was tanked using BAL WP1, I have a travertine walled and a marble mosaic floored shower. The mosaic was laid first wall to wall. The tiles were then fixed on the walls. The join between the wall and floor was grouted and silicone sealed. Every month or so i have to remove the silicone sealant as it goes mouldy. When i remove the silicone, water literally runs out of the join between floor and wall. Could this be because the walls have not been grouted and sealed properly and the water is penetrating the tiles ?

Can you give me a little more info please

Why is there a silicone bead around floor any particular reason ?

What wetroom base did you use ?

Who installed it ?

The tiler never put the silicone on the joint and asked if i could do it for him as he forgot. It was part of my self build project.

The problem i have, after ripping the tiles off this morning, is that where the glass door meets the wall and step into the shower, it has not been grouted/sealed properly. This allows water behind the wall and steps but it has nowwhere to go.

Then because of the silicone i used it runs behind the silicone all round the shower, only to be released when i pull off the silicone.

I am using a sandstone grout sealed with REPOIL.

Is this completeley waterproof, i.e do i need the silicone around the bottom tiles ?

Have you ever seen water penetrating through a travertine tile ? on looking closely the tiles have tiny holes which have not been filled with grout.

Thanks in advance.

Walls to ceiling, taped joints to floor and all sealed with WP1.

I have since removed the tiles from my step and it appears that the water is penetrating the tiles/joints somehow.

I have three showers all with the exact same problem !

the tanking acts as a waterproofing membrane behind the tiles because grout is not waterproof its water resistent and will still allow water to pass through it. so when you pull the silicone off the wall joints there is water present because the tanking is doing its job by not letting water through the subwall to damage plasterboard.to reduce the silicone from going mouldy when you take a bath or a shower keep the room well ventilated
