Hi, I'm a new Member. I am about to start tiling two shower rooms, the builder has plaster boarded and skimmed the walls with plaster and fitted the shower base's. I've been told at topps tiles I need to fit a homelux water proof matting in the shower cubical areas will this be OK. As I do not want to rip out the plasterboard and fit hardiboard or similar unless I have to.Thanks peter.  | ||||||||||

I personally like bal wp1, simple to use, Never used homelux. Make sure the tiles are not to heavy for plastered walls less than 20kg per m2 | ||||||||||

You could also consider the likes of Ardex wpc or Schluter Kerdi system. Both very effective if you can get them. | ||

CTD near me have just started selling Ardex They are pushing this over the BAL They appear to have a good range at last - wonder if their other outlets will follow frogeye | ||||||||||

I would use a water proof membrane anytime over a tanking solution.......easier to use and better job..IMO..... | ||

Hi Guys - Ardex tech. help told me recently that with their waterproof adhesive (was it Flex FS?) on solid bed, it was OK to use a substrate of green plasterboard (damp resistant) for a plain clay-backed tile power shower enclosure. They seem pretty switched-on, and it's certainly quicker and cheaper than tanking, but I don't know.... Any experience, anyone? Cheers... | ||||||||||

Hi Yes the advice would be to install a membrane off a roll and bring it down over the seals arount your shower tray. This will give you greater reliability over paint on membranes is faster and the unit would be "tanked" If you need help with this then shout. tiler | ||||||||||
