kitchen
A kitchen is a room or part of a room used for cooking and food preparation in a dwelling or in a commercial establishment. A modern middle-class residential kitchen is typically equipped with a stove, a sink with hot and cold running water, a refrigerator, and worktops and kitchen cabinets arranged according to a modular design. Many households have a microwave oven, a dishwasher, and other electric appliances. The main functions of a kitchen are to store, prepare and cook food (and to complete related tasks such as dishwashing). The room or area may also be used for dining (or small meals such as breakfast), entertaining and laundry. The design and construction of kitchens is a huge market all over the world.
Commercial kitchens are found in restaurants, cafeterias, hotels, hospitals, educational and workplace facilities, army barracks, and similar establishments. These kitchens are generally larger and equipped with bigger and more heavy-duty equipment than a residential kitchen. For example, a large restaurant may have a huge walk-in refrigerator and a large commercial dishwasher machine. In some instances, commercial kitchen equipment such as commercial sinks is used in household settings as it offers ease of use for food preparation and high durability. In developed countries, commercial kitchens are generally subject to public health laws. They are inspected periodically by public-health officials, and forced to close if they do not meet hygienic requirements mandated by law.
Hi everyone,
Our tiler has done a really amazing job with our kitchen flooring, but has used a grout far paler than originally suggested. Was going to be dark grey. The one they've used matches the tiles really well, so looks great, but as this is a high traffic area, I'm really worried about...
Hi,
I'm trying to assess what prep is needed on the walls for my kitchen backsplash. We'll be using a metro tile or longer rectangular tile (up to 300mm length) in brickbond and as the walls have some bow on one side and a fairly substantial runout on the other, I'm trying to workout what I...
The grout is white and suffering from cooking stains so will be redoing. Was thinking of using epoxy but from research some people say it go's yellow after a time and if I want to replace it its a problem to get out. So looking again at normal grout but with a good sealer.
But which one ?
Its...
OK hear me out. Kitchen floor. Pro tiler.
15mm clearance from top of dishwasher to underside of worktop. Customer wants 900x900 tiles on floor.
Not enough height to overboard the OSB with BB and tile. Same with ditra etc. Customer doesn't want to pay for removal of OSB + replace w/ ditra or...
Hi Guys i’m going to be tiling over skimmed plaster walls in a kitchen for first time. (first time over bare plaster)
Do i need to prime the walls with anything? I use rapid set mapei wall tile adhesive and the brick slips will be made of sand and cement not clay. So basically concrete based...
Hi...looking for some advice. This is my first tiling job. I replaced my kitchen counter and the layer of tiles meeting the kitchen counter were removed and now need to be replaced. I am reusing the old tiles. My question is what is advised to connect the tile to the counter?
Hi all
I was hoping to get your opinions / thoughts on some work done in the kitchen by the builders at my parents.
The main thing I'm scratching my head about is the tiling when it meets the kitchen cabinets. The builders have left gaps un-tiled under the cabinets and cookerhood and I think...
I'm getting large floor tiles install in the kitchen with existing kitchen units. However, getting different comments from companies over the difficulty of installing the tiles under the existing kitchen units. It's not a problem where there are kitchen cabinet legs and a plinth hiding it as...
I'm embarking on tiling a kitchen, wall-to-wall (under washing machine etc). most of the floor is concrete/screed, but there's a 2" overlap onto both 18mm ply, and also an old hearth which is not connected to concrete slab. kitchen install is in 10 days time..
there was a failed attempt to...
The tiles are 60x60 and sat one a Wunda floor UFH system (Water). The builder who installed them didn’t use the right adhesive or any primer. I have the tiles.

Hi,
Some of my kitchen tiles are cracked and I want to replace them rather than re-tiling the entire kitchen ( 27sqms!!!) The tiles are 10 years old so not readily available: any suggestions of services I might approach to match them?
I'm having my kitchen renovated and the tiler came last week and did the floor tiles. They're 175x200mm Porcelain hex tiles. He laid the tiles onto no more ply cement board that was put down by our builders. The day after the tiling I realised the floor isn't flat - almost every tile is not...
I am about to take on a kitchen backsplash with a standard metro tile and am looking for some advice. The surface is painted plaster, paint in good condition. Should the plaster be scored, sanded and then primed before tiling? Just keeping myself right as i have seen people with different...
Hi all,
I am hoping someone here can help me. I had kitchen tiles installed on Monday, and I’m really not happy with the finish. The grout lines are uneven, the plug sockets have been put back on crooked (I checked with spirit level to make sure my eyes weren’t tricking me), the tiles don’t line...
Hi - I have been asked to tile a kitchen floor which currently has Karndean (Or other such...) type flooring stuck possibly onto a thin board, but it is ultimately all stuck to a concrete/screed subfloor.
I've never been asked to lift this type of flooring before doing the tiling work, so...
Hi! Could I get some advice on my tiling? It's just been done last week by a tiler by trade but my builder who does everything says that he could have done a neater job and that he's surprised by the level of finish and pointed out some clumsy areas.
I'm now worried that my tiler did a bad job...
Hi all,
Just after a bit of advice please. I had my kitchen floor tiled last week (porcelain tiles).
I think there is movement and cracking/crumbling grout in some of the tiles. I supplied the tiles and the grout. The tiler supplied everything else including the adhesive. I think he’s used the...
