Travertine on T&G Floorboards
Hi Folks looking for some good advice
I am looking to install travertine floor tiles in my first floor bathroom which currently has T&G floorboards. I have read that i could screw down 18mm WBP plywood and 6mm cement board on top but am reluctant to do so as floor height would be considerably higher. After much searching on the net i have come to the conclusion that it would be better to rip out floorboards, install 25mm WBP ply (noggins to reinforce floor) with ditra mat on top and tile directly on to this. If so how is the ditra mat installed onto the ply (glue) or is it floating? At tile store i bought mapei white flexible adhesive, flexible grout and stone tile sealer is this what i should be using? 1 more thing as a whole new bathroom suite is going in would it be better to tile under bath toilet etc? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Re: Travertine on T&G Floorboards
i would replace the 25mm wpb for 18mm wpb and 6mm hardi fixed with adhesive and screws. cement board is a better substrate to tile on.

Re: Travertine on T&G Floorboards
Same as Dave for me, top advice remeber to back skim tiles as well as using a 10mm trowel for addy bed when laying tiles (fills in voids on back of trav and ensures 100% coverage

Re: Travertine on T&G Floorboards
Try the Sponsor PHG Wetrooms for an alternative.
Ditra is good but there are other makes and price/delivery and small quantity may be an issue which PHG will overcome.
Good Luck.

Re: Travertine on T&G Floorboards
PHG sell 5m or 20m or 30m.My local tops sell it by the metre.

Re: Travertine on T&G Floorboards
IMHO as PHG sponsor the forum, are extremely competitive, and can provide an excellent delivery service - they tick the boxes.
However if your recommendation cut to length, then sparky may find it cost effective to try this retail outlet.

Re: Travertine on T&G Floorboards
If you can wait for delivery PHG ci mat will be cheaper than topps unless you can get a discount.

Re: Travertine on T&G Floorboards
Ripped out old T&g floorboards reinforced floor with 2x2 inch noggins screwed to joists, fitted 25mm wbp ply screwed at 300mm centres, waiting on ci matting being delivered which is to be stuck down with an s2 addy(keraquick with latex plus). Can I use a s1 addy on top of ci matt? Also the missus is wantin a ufh mat put down would this be ok to put under ci matt? Also is there any tests to measure deflection just 2 be sure??
