    Default travertine on stud walls

I am concerned about the weight loading with travertine on skimmed plasterboard to a stud wall. Interested to know options available - could I go with extra wall fixings or replace plasterboard to ply or backer boards What experience do you guys have and what is the shear weight for plasterboard I believe someone mentioned 20kgs in an earlier post

it's 20kg per m2 if walls are skimmed, 32kgm2 if it's bare plasterboard, 12mm hardiebacker is even higher, (can't just recall at the moment)

these weights are inclusive of adhesive and grout that works out at 5kg per m2 so it's unlikely most travertine can go directly onto plasterboard walls

Can I ask the question is this weight allowance taken when the plasterboard/plaster is in the horizontal position and the weight of the tile/adhesive etc is in the downward motion - ie as stuck on the ceiling.
Or is it taken when the weight of the tiles+ to the vertical wall are stacked on top of each other and in which case when fixed using my plumb levelling system - the weight is stacked on top of each tile in perfect symmetry.
I wonder if there is a measurement of force that is required to pull 20kg - 32kg of a vertical wall surface!
    Just a technical thought!
    Here to be educated!

Seen this question spoke about before, It's the weight on the vertical but this is what the manufacturers have presented as a safety weight, it's just if something goes wrong and it's over loaded but do see your point John

Very similar thread to the one where i'm getting my butt chewed off, If the walls are solid and with no give then I really cannot see the problem, tiles are supported from the floor up, I have never known tiles to fall off because they are too heavy. Inspect the walls throughly and if you have any misgivings then carry out the appropriate remedial works, unless you have an architect on site and then obviously he/she knows best.

But you do not cut tiles tight to the floor or ceiling due to expansion reasons, so how are the tiles sat on the floor.....they are not ,they are suspended via the substrate....a down ward force called gravity is to blame i think...

lets hope that gravity does not keep interfering Dave, else we might have to get thicker pieces of cardboard to prop them up off the floor
