Pre Travetine advice please
Hi all
Hoping for any experienced advice
Have been asked to look at a job shortly and only have brief details that been it's travetine on 6mm ply over 18mm board.
My first thoughts would be ideal with backer board down rather than ply but that's already down.
Can anybody envisage any probs or any particular adhesive so i'm aware when i go to see the job?
Cheers for any thoughts
Kev

Re: Pre Travetine advice please
Hi kev..6mm ply isn't stable enough IMO...
Who stated to the customer 6mm ply was ok.?

Re: Pre Travetine advice please
Thanks for the quick response Dave
Don't think anybody has adviced him i come across so many people whose first sentence is "i'll ply it out for you"
He is actually a local builder so will be sure what's been done in his eyes is correct.
When you say stable does that mean it's likely to expand and bubble up or more meaning not a great key for the adhesive?
Wanting to confidently explain the correct way to him
Cheers
Kev

Re: Pre Travetine advice please
Yes..i mean it can swell with moisture and offers no strength to the floor.

Re: Pre Travetine advice please
As well as having the potential for voids between it and the chipboard. 6mm ply is too flexible in my opinion for tiling even when ringnailed every 2 inches!!
if the ply is down already for this job you either need to lift it and put something more appropriate down or walk away...Nice soft Trav on nice springy 6mm ply...Nightmare!!!
