    Default Pva

I'm now in Spain doing 'a bit of this' and a 'bit of that', DIY mainly in our new home near Alicante. On a few occasions I have wished for some PVA to assist in various stuations. Problem is no one here seems to know what I am on about, I have tried all the usuals like Brico Depot, Leroy Merlins etc, but sadly to no avail.

Can anyone please help or advise on where I can go to get it or is there a Spanish equivalent maybe.

Note... I do not need the PVA for Tiling jobs. I had to Bond a new top screed to a sub floor and made up a 'slurry' using PVA, 1 sand, 1 cement to apply just before the concrete. My 5 litre bottle I brought from the UK from Screwfix is virtually gone. I'm trying to top my supply.

    Thanks all

What is it you want the PVA for Winkle? As Sir Ramic says it's not suitable in tiling situations, have you asked about SBR?

He did say its NOT for tiling.

I have a mate who used to take his out to Spain from the UK as he couldnt find it either. Easyjet wont let him take it now incase it leaks.

Dont they just have a large tub of wood glue?

you still have the same problems pva will come back to liquid if it becomes wet that's why its no good for tiling same prob with rendering if it gets damp it will debond (go drummy)

PVA is available in Spain in any Ferreteria or Leroy Merlin but it is called wood glue as thats what it is ask for cola blanca para madera, as has been said you shouldnt be using it should be SBR which is available in builders merchants not sure the specific name in Spanish but where i lve they just call it cemento aditivo

Hi Lucius, how have you been? I haven't seen you in a while.

The typical translation we have here on products for the tile trade for generic latex is "aditivo para mortero".

The two guys that work for me always read the instructions in English, even though they are native Spanish speakers, because they say the translations are usually bad and full of mistakes.

Lucius, WOW !!! I'm glad you ended up with only an injury on the thumb! I took a nasty fall about a month ago on some concrete, but I ended up only hurting my knee and ankle and all seems ok now.

Has the country gotten back to work after the World Cup? One of my employees is a nutcase about Spain so he's on top of the world now.

We're doing a whole-house rehab on a rowhouse in Washington DC circa 1900. Old by our standards but not the same as what you see in Spain.

    Happy fishing buddy.

Lucius, I have read that Spain's economy has some big problems. I didn't know you've been back in the UK so long. Hope to see you around here more.

You won't find PVA in Spain, you will need to buy wood glue. the problem is it comes in small litre bottles at best.
It seems too many missed your staement that it is NOT for tiling Not sure what else you could have added to be clearer
Tiling and PVA just don't mix in this forum.

Personally, I like to have some at all times and always have a use for it.
The only way is to get with someone travelling over and ask them to put a couple of 5Ltr bottles in their car, otherwise you will be having to use local products.
There are many, but it's a nightmare trying to locate them.
Experience is not years of doing a job, it's mistakes you have made and what you learned.

I live in Tenerife and get the Spanish take on pva. Ask for kampac-tuna.
    Spelling may be wrong.
When I was first told of this product, I thought, A TIN OF FISH.
