Hello, we have decided to lay some solid wood flooring in our downstairs - we live in an old edwardian house and have a very long hallway and 2 reception rooms. The kitchen is already tiled, I won't be changing that/ We have a filthy carpet in one reception room (4 kids!) and ripped lino in the other and bumpy, badly fitted lino down the hall. I have decided it is time to sort this out. I need something easily cleanable and maintanable and very hard wearing, but am confused about the choice. What type of wood flooring is best? Should we get wide or narrow planks? Oiled or varnished or laquered? - if we buy unfinished is it easy to laquer? and should I allow my husband to fit it and save money or insist on a professional? Should we glue or nail it? Or would it be better to go for tiles? Any answers on this would be appreciated. Many thanks is advance.
