Open Question: Can I grind down natural slate tiles using diamond floor grinder?

I have a natural slate tile floor, but it it is uneven by up to 5mm as the tiles are riven. I would like a smoother floor and am considering using a diamond floor grinder. The floor grinders claim they can grind concrete, marble and granite. It doesn't mention slate, so I was wondering if any one has tried using them for slate tiles? Also, how do I find suitable persons for this type of job. I've searched for stonemasons, but most of them deal more with church restoration or other building restoration projects and not floors.
