Open Question: We used a steam cleaner on the grout between our tiles and now the black mould is growing like mad, why?

The portion of the tiles near the shower area are growing horrible black mildew (or mould) on the grout. We decided to steam in clean but for some reason it has come back with a vengence. It had taken 5 years to get to the first stage and now 2 weeks to get to the second really bad stage. Don't know why?
