Question Open Question: is it ok to tile over skimmed plasterboard?

My bathroom walls are plasterboard which are skimmed and painted. Is it ok to tile on top of this? and if i do will I run the risk of the tiles falling off in a few years?I'm considering pulling down all the plasterboard and putting up good quality plywood in its place to tile on. Is this the best thing to do?

It depends on the tiles you are putting up. If small light tiles then no problem, just wash painted walls with sugar soap and scratch paint, bond with acrylic and tile. If big heavy tiles then best to replace with new plaster board and bond and tile

wouldn't have thought needed to replace with plywood, plasterboard should do the trick (depending on weight of tile)
