Question Open Question: Renewal Of Shower Floor?

We have recently had a substance painted on the shower floor because the old tiles were leaking. These were taken up and this paint like substance was put down, but we have noticed a very strong chemical smell, initially when it was laid but also everytime we have a shower using hot water we notice the same smell. We are in a rented property and the owner said she had looked on the internet and found this substance which is used on swimming pools, is it right to use it in domestic properties where hot water is applied whereas swimming pools dont have hot water applied. Will this chemical smell cause any health side effects to us? we are unsure of the brand of the product.
