IMHO it's a complete waste of time and money. Is this in the rental place? If it is then you really shouldn't be worrying where people might want to put their shoes!!

Yes it is a rental and as it's the only one I'll do and as I'm doing it for pleasure I want to enjoy putting some extra thought into it. No room by this front door!
Difficult to waste money when the wood/worktop are offcuts and I have lots of itme to squander (I'm retired). ***

You will need to buy a flexible adhesive or they won't last 5 minutes with a washing machine bouncing around on top of them..

This is where some people must go wrong the amount of times I've seen tiles lifting from wooden floors I always thought it wasn't possible to lay onto wood, this has confirmed what i had read recently elsewhere.
