My washing machine will live in a cupboard (tiled throughout inside of course) and I'd like to put floor tiles down on the wooden floor. Do I need to seal it first so that it doesn't absorb the moisture from the adhesive? Small area so don't really want to go and buy special adhesive.

xx

You will need to buy a flexible adhesive or they won't last 5 minutes with a washing machine bouncing around on top of them..

Oh dear - glad I asked then! The plan is tiled floor, 7 inch high platform (timber + leftover kitchen worktop), machine on top - will it still crack my tiles? Might have to befriend a local tiler to scrounge a small quantity of flexible adhesive....xx

What type of wooden floor is it? This info would help in advising on required prep, over boarding and primer etc.
Any pics?
As Andy says above, you don't have an option regarding adhesive, you either use a suitable adhesive and grout for the task or the job will fail!

I could just use a bit of vinyl flooring - just prefer tiles. Floor is cheapo wooden fibreboard type stuff. Hoping to do similar in dishwasher/fridge spaces in kitchen (new plywood).

I'm very aware that you have to do the correct thing - that's why I'm seeking advice.

......Might build platform directly onto wooden floor, tile then place worktop on top - result!

I'm here, just a bit saddened that you took loads of good advice during your last tiling venture, then never delivered the promised pictures which we all craved

Because the flat is tiny with little space. This would provide shoe storage and I'd shelve above it as well for more space.

That seems a bit bizarre. If you have it on the floor as normal you'll still have exactly the same amount of space above it for storage

Yes I considered that but shoes are not great to have in sniffing distance! Installation will be tricker but they'll only have to do it once hopefully. xx

Now George Clarke would say in a 7 inch gap you could fit a fold out clothes rack, out of the washer onto the rack, and maybe leave shoes behind the front door where my kids always kick there's off :D
