One of the advantages of the vario system is that its possible to tile directly onto it without screeding first.
The wires recessed so the trowel wont nick them. Just fill the voids in the mat with addy as you go. Quick, simple and easy.

I never wait more then 2-3 days to tile onto screed. In Italy is common practice to do the screed by tiler,in this way no excuses if is not flat.I can't see the reason for wait to dry if you fix tile. For wood is another discussion but not for tiles.
IMO better if is not fully dry,in this way is more strong.
what ?, repeat the offending sentence :) ahahah

doesn't Schluter do one with insulation built in?
Not sure about that! I think they are going for vario.
So, is it safe to lay the insulation boards over the screed then lay the vario ? Surely the vario can't do its job if there's insulation ?

can't see the point of the uncoupling mat if you put insulation board under it. What do Vario recommend?
and yes Schluter do one with built in insulation.

I was under the impression and informed by two sources that you had to put a mat down in the form of vario pro, or durabase in order to tile over a screed quickly without the drying time, is that not right?

I think the ditra is more expensive Julian, and it's not a high price job, it's about 20sq.
Do you think it's necessary to leave skirting off while the screed dries ?

realistically how long is it going to be from screed going down till you have tiled it ready for skirting? 4 or 5 weeks? Put skirting on.

I like Name pronto!
Not sure if that stuff exists here or if eBay would even be suitable for a 20m floor area at 75mm thick. You would need a lot of bags!
