Hi all,
Got a job coming up soon, hallway with 600x600 porcelain white marble effect tiles 10mm thick.
Customer wants a cut out in tiles by the front door for a mat to fit in.
What is the best way to finish the edges?
I was going to use metal L trim but been thinking about sharp edges.
I have never done one of these and just had a quick look on forum and couldn't find anything.
Thanks for any help

try and finish to a full tile if setting out allows if not just put a good edge back on the cut and will be fine. Not trim required.

it would look perfect is you didn't use trim ;)
again, why would you want trim?
it turns a classy look into a cheap look ?

The traditional way is to have a recess in the floor and lined with a metal strip as all tiles will eventually chip without a protected edge and also some doors are are set very close to
the floor, last thing make sure you have the right size mat
and set the recess 5mm larger than the mat as mats tend to spread after a while.

Personally I have always used trim but I can see the appeal without especially with stone. I would be worried about chipping edges and might be tempted to lightly bullnose or sand the leading edge.

I've done it with and without depending on type of tile and client opinion. In my own house, with saltillo terracotta, I used oak to match the oak thresholds in the 4 doorways in the hall.
