A big thank you to everyone who voted, some great entries this month. Thanks also to Dave and all the team and to the sponsor Mistore
Here's my entry, The Vestibule of a 160 year old church which was undergoing a renovation
Olde English tiles were used, Collingford design, with Twist border. 14m2 in total,50x50mm squares and 50x50x70mm Triangles, over 5800 tiles!!! Tiled with BAL Mosaic fix and PCI Grout
I Have to say this was the most complicated design I have ever done, not the centre but the border, as ,when you turn a corner with it the pattern is going the opposite direction!( and there are 12 corners)I spent a full evening drawing out a corner to get it right and dry laying some the next day(pic 2)
I was looking forward to doing it for a while but very glad to finish it!

Brian,
You seem to be implying that previous winners should be illegible for future entries. Surely, the good nature of the competition is to showcase quality tiling regardless of who the actual tiler submitting the entry is?
I will not bother to enter or showcase further work seeing as I won a few months ago.
It seems a real shame that we will not get to drool over future entries from the likes of Hillhead, Timeless and Tommy if they adopt my stance.

Nice 1 Tommy, excellent work..
tommyzooom (04-11-2009)

just thought it would be nice for others to win and tbh..it will always be those certain guys as i for one do not do that sort of work because i dont know how to for a start...surely i must be just like you are be entitled to my opinnion.I actually think that a lot of members do not enter because they have no chance of winning. But please dont think about not showcasing your work and entering this competition.
I think maybe that the rules need changed a little for example categorising the competition be it by how long you have been tiling say 5yrs and under and 5yrs experience or floors..specialist jobs...just my opinion and you dont need to agree but im sure there are some members out there that feel the same as me that the work they do doesnt merit an entry because you cant compete with the guys with lots of experience.

Hey all,
I'm fine with all the comments above and thanks for discussing it amicably.
Though how people vote and why is up to them. The competitions is just light hearted fun and I'd encourage all members (new and established) to upload their best work for each month as you never know who will win.
If somebody thinks their work isn't good enough, then those that vote like brian (and everybody can vote for whatever reason they want) could just tip you above the 'guy' with the most votes so far for some other reason (so perhaps the most expensive work, the nicest looking, whatever).
I welcome lots of different voting strategies because that meants that those who think they may not be able to win, could win.
I don't think sticking people into different groups would be too wise as you could find people sticking their pics in the lesser quality group to try and win. I think one competition, lots of entries, lots of votes, will always be the most transparent way to get a winner.
I don't mind if the same person wins every month as I think once they've won a couple of times they'll either not enter, or we'll find a guy one month that's really confident about his work and he'll try to beat the common winner.
The be all and end all of it is we need lots of entries and lots of votes.
So please do upload your pics, you have nothing to loose, and please do vote for whatever reason you want, as a good mix of reasons will give us lots of chances to have a varied range of winners throughout the year.
Thanks to all the entries, and thanks to all the winners, and thanks to all the voters.
(Just to add to this if you think it helps, perhaps we make a rule that those who won the previous month can't enter in the next one? - perhaps I'm just sticking a spanner in the works but perhaps that'll keep those who are not entering happy to enter - please gimme your thoughts on this?!).

I plan to enter next month again, although I dont have any "Special" jobs like this month in the pipeline, Not to try and regain the title but I am interested in what other tilers are doing and the more the merrier, and to receive feedback and comments, good and bad on my entry

I'd just like to add some reassurance to anyone that is questioning whether they should enter. I'm coming to the end of my second year of full time professional tiling. I have showcased work that I have enjoyed to do and that I, personally, have been proud of. Whether you have 2 months or 20 years experience should not affect your decision to enter. If you have completed a job that you are proud to add to your portfolio (to show to prospective customers), then be proud to enter it.
As has been expressed, we all vote based on differing merits so be proud and embrase the spirit of JOTM.
