Phil Hobson (26-02-2012)

Hi, here is my first entry( floor, treads and risers 20mm carrara marble. walls 10mm carrara marble). It is hard to compete against true experts, but i'll try. This project was a bit of chalenge, as new concrete walls and treads were build realy badly, nothing lined up with the house or enything. Everything was out of square, all treads different sizes etc., so i had to make it right.

ok thanks

Yes nice entrance Tony. Unlike some of the older members I had 3 second places before I won! And some very good jobs don't just because something 'different' is entered that month. This month is interesting.

hi all
my entry for your consideration for jotm!
I'm am very proud of this effort, it was certainly a challenge from start to finish!
Fortunately I had the lord on my side and I'm am glad to say the job is now complete after a tough 14weeks and 59,000 tiles later!
We started out by removing the existing but not original tiles, carefully not to disturb the existing, but surprisingly sound screed.
The floor levels were shocking but our options were limited, the central pews sit on an existing oak floor to which we had to finish flush! In order to create a level floor we would have needed to raise it by 40 mm which wasn't possible, so careful preparation to Feather high points to at least make the floor look flat to the eye!
We used isomat and an slc to to create a solid flat floor to tile.
Setting out was a mission, the centre run was was over a hundred tiles, (20m)with 2 mm spacing you can imagine setting you first tile1mm out of line!
We also had to wrap around the oak floor sections which left no margin for error!
Overall a pleasure to work on and I am really pleased with the outcome, there are some talented people on this site and thanks again for the warm welcome its nice to see so many skilled craftsman sharing there work! Keep up the good work guys and be sure to pass the skills on!
I've got some some top quality work to compete with, but I must say phil and nicks effort gets my vote! Definitely a piece of me, love the challenge of a reclaim!
