Re: ** JOTM September 2011 **
Hello all, here is my entry. A shower room that I finished up today. It was for a builder and good friend of mine. The customer wanted the mosaics on the floor to be fixed in this pattern and not as they came on the sheets, so every other course of tiles had to be marked and cut by hand into wedge shapes, this took an ages to do but I like the outcome. The floor was then grouted in epoxy. The walls have LED lights in them that make a nice touch. Unfortunately tho, I dont have many pics of the job in progress as my camera with most of my stage by stage pics on it was pinched. Anyway, I hope there is enough to be interesting.

Re: ** JOTM September 2011 **
Thank you every1. Gary, it did take me ages and OH yes it was on a day rate.
Ed, the builder built the shower enclosure itself, I just did the tiling.
Missy, you will have to ask the customer that one, same reason she didnt want them cut in on the step I would imagine. She had some strange design ideas in this house. The wet room down stairs was all 300x300 slate with a bright fire red ceramic border... Wasnt my cup of tea but they loved it. The customer is always right

Wow, Rich, I think that's incredible!! Love how you did the tray, how very very smart! and working in such an enclosed space, too, must have been a pain. Looks perfect - and I like the design!

Can imagine, I really can. How long did this take you, (if you have been asked this already my apologies... cruising about a bit on here before bedtime...)

Re: ** JOTM September 2011 **
Hmmm... Hard to say to be honest, there was a lot of tiling in the rest of the house. I did a little bit here and there. I would guess that the tray took around a week and a half, give or take.

thats what counts lol. But doesnt hurt to advise them.

Re: ** JOTM September 2011 **
It makes me wonder, the design, if the customer designed it, it has this look of a moving bicycle wheel, with the spokes and that drive chain centre, if that is what may have prompted the design... I am so glad you said it took one and ahalf weeks, things just take ages, don't they... I would love to see the rest of the house, looks an interesting place

Grinder with a marcrist disk, cut them cleaner than anything else. I fixed the straight full courses and then each slither was laid in place, marked both sides, then i marked a line across the tile with a ruler and cut it with the grinder. There was once or twice I caught my fingers

Re: ** JOTM September 2011 **
i've been using a glass disc from topps recently, cuts so clean, ideal for cutting squares out of tiles to put mosaics in

Re: ** JOTM September 2011 **
Very impressive - I'd have considered making it up via a template and mesh.
6'2" in that area for 10 days
I love the effect of the coloured glass blocks - they were popular a couple of years ago and I still feel make a fashion statement.

Re: ** JOTM September 2011 **
Hi folks, I am not sure if this will qualify as a bona fide job of the month but here goes anyway. In recent times, what with work being slack, I have taken to mosaic art as a hobby. After a few poor starts, I finally have come up with a piece that is presentable. I started by downloading a picture from google and then scaled it up in size on to some ply 600x 400. I spent about a week of evenings roughly 2 hours at a time and finally I have this to show for my time. I will understand if the mods don't allow it but I would still appreciate some feedback, especially from the mosaic art specialists on the forum.
