Re: ** JOTM July 2011 **
Hi Everyone,
After seeing so many people putting up their work for JOTM I thought I'd give it a go myself. Just finished a project in London working with some very nice materials. A lot of imported marble, tonnes of mosaics and a great deal of prep work! Can not recommend prepping up enough!
In total there were 4 bathrooms and a oak floor entrance with marble insets. As I cant put forward all of them (or can i) I have chosen photos to one of my favourite bathrooms.
Floor had to be brought up about 2 inches to meet the wooden floors on either entrances as well as fitting the UFH throughout. Hope you like the final finish as much as I do. It was one great big jigsaw puzzle and a load of fun.
Thanks

Lovely work SquareEyes. How long did each of the rooms take?

Re: ** JOTM July 2011 **
Thanks Bri. Tiling the floor took me four days. The first day and a half was spent adjusting the sheets to fit the room perfectly. That involved cutting the borders off and adding/subtracting from the patterns to suite room. The rest of the time was used to dry lay the mosaics to make sure they fit snug into the skirting and re-glueing mosaics that fell off sheets...which was a complete nightmare as the glue used by the suppliers wouldn't hold the really thin bits of mosaics in place. Patience was my friend on this one.

Re: ** JOTM July 2011 **
didnt really answer your question did i...because I've had to wait for vanities to arrive and one piece 1800x100 marble shower trays to bring up 6 storeys as well as having other trades in there trying to do their bits and pieces its taken a while. I've been there for almost 2 months on and off. The self levelling that the previous contractors poured was shocking - I mean, UFH elements were sticking out of it, bits of poorly mixed SLC jutted out..its been a real pain to prep everything, but like i said, if you take your time to do these things properly then the rest (tiling) is plain sailing....

Lovely job - don't really like the look of the floor per se, even though it's mosaic, but can really appreciate the work involved

Re: ** JOTM July 2011 **
Nice job Square Eyes, quite an old fashioned mosaic pattern. A year or so ago I did a small refurb job on a rediscovered old mosaic floor and it was all in that curve pattern, it was atleast 50 years old.

Yes Sharon, the fan mosaic has been used for centuries. I remember seeing shop doorways in the high street done like, this as a kid

Re: ** JOTM July 2011 **
We've got a very old town in Hemel and there a few shop that still have the fan pattern..

Re: ** JOTM July 2011 **
Yes, that's why I didn't like the floor really, I would hate to have a bathroom like it, seems so so dated! But the work itself is so very good, and that is what is being judged on JOTM after all
Small spaces like that are so hard as well, when there isn't much room to move..
