Re: ** JOTM March 2011 **
Hi Peeps
Looks a s though Im starting off.
Heres some pics of a steam room I finally finished today.
Mosaics used were mesh backed 10mm x 10mm x 4mm glass, mesh backed 50 x 50 x 8mm glass and 50 x 24 x 8mm glass, all by Mosaico+ . Grouted with Mosaico+ epoxy grout which is exactly the same as Bisazza Filgel, which was a relief as its easy to clean, although I had my suspicions confirmed that I am allergic to it! Mapei Utracolour Plus was also used on the plain brown mosaics. I used Mapei P10 adhesive.
Its a bit of an all singing and all dancing steam room, and was certainly a challenge. Apart from seats there was a bullnosed ridge running round the room, 5 recesses, a boxed steam outlet and a curved rectangular ceiling with a blend!
For the ceiling I had only 8 boxes of the blend (7 sheets making up the blend in each box). That wasnt nearly enough to do the ceiling properly and the Architects sent me the layout of how to do it. Ive included pics of what they sent me, as its easier than explaining it! As they said its not perfect but its certainly the cheaper option, and everyone loved it anyway. I made a couple of changes to their layout to even out the blend.
cheers

It was the first job I did for a new contact and now have more with him in the pipeline.
This is the sort of work I'd love to do all the time.

While the standard has been set high , please dont let it put anyone off entering as the voters dont all have the same taste. If you are pleased with your work then please show us.

Sorry if Ive put too many pics, but its a small room with lots going on and with only site lights it was hard to get a good impression of it all. Also some guys have mentioned they like to see some prep pics. Personally I like to see lots of pics as it gives you a better idea of the job. Hey ho.

Spanish, fiddlesticks. When jobs are involved with lots of different areas where different degrees of skill are needed, let's see it! Better than few photos that just show the one good bit....
Missy, you deserve every success, it's the hard physical work, not just your attention to really clean work that is so impressive, and it must have taken guts, too, to take on the job in general, the ceiling especially. The little steam jets in the ceiling, did you have to tile around them or did they get drilled through afterwards? Personally I don't like the colour combo, but we are not judging colours here, we are judging the tiler's job here. Absolutely superb.

Re: ** JOTM March 2011 **
hi mosaic girl
It was definately alot of mental work! The 'jets' in the ceiling are infact tiny lights! they were put in after Id grouted the ceiling, I had to leave an access panel open in the ceiling so the spark to do all the lights.

Dave correct me if i am wrong but when sir ramic started the jotm there where various rules as to the number of pics, a photo of a current news paper etc etc.
personaly i like to see lots of pics and as mg says with a large job of the complex nature of miss tilers then you need plenty to show the work put in.
may be a simple set of rules should be posted ? I know some newer members will not have been on here from the start of jotm and maybe not familiar with it ?
me i just like to see the quality work entered
and by the way my comment was not aimed at miss tiler, just a general observation

Re: ** JOTM March 2011 **
If you are not bothered about pics then why mention it..?..
The Rule is simple, produce evidence to show it was done within the said month, simple as that. can't see why there is an issue..
Back to the thread then plz.

is that the boxing in picture 16? those greens look stunning in that picture, especially as they're put on so well. shows how the light can affect them there too.

Yes it is, it wasnt originally to be covered in the green tiles. Inside the opening is the unit of the steam outlet which also has lights so the steam changes colour as do the tiny lights in the ceiling!
cheers
