re: travertine tiles
OK so you will need tools. I don't know what you already have but you will need to have an angle grinder with a good blade or a good wet saw. all the cuts will need to be done outside. when you are fixing the trav you will need to back butter the tile so all the holes are full as well as putting the adhesive on the wall. You will need to make sure the sub straight is suitable to carry the weight of the trav. You need to be using a cement based adhesive so the sub straight will need the proper preparation. And the trav will need sealing before and after grouting.

re: travertine tiles
jumbo - IMHO travertine is not a product to be considered as a DIY venture!
There will be information within the forum to help guide you, but for practical purposes in fixing, more knowledge than a days course will be required.

re: travertine tiles
I love working with travertine, the finidhed product can be very rewarding if done right, there are however a few tricks to the trade you should know before setting off,Deano has covered a few of the basics and as Timeless John has said there's lots of good info on these pages, just punch in travertine and you'll get everything I need, plus it saves me the time of having to type them out, good luck, enjoy.

Re: travertine tiles
The plaster should carry the weight if it is not loose in any places i would prime it with neat bal apd and use a flexible slow set cement based adhesive

Re: travertine tiles
You need to know the combined weight of the tiles and adhesive before fixing. The weight limit for the plaster you mentioned is 28 kg per m2...allow about 3kg per m2 for adhesive and grout. So if the tiles weigh less than 25kg then you should be fine.
Cement based adhesive only please.
