Please rate the quality of this work
We've just had our bathroom completely refitted.
We'd really appreciate it if you'd take a minute or two to look at the photos posted on this page (Jon's bathroom pictures) and comment here on what you think of the quality of the work.
I'd especially like comments from professional tilers, bathroom/kitchen fitters or anyone with more than a passing acquaintance with this kind of work. If that's you, would you please indicate in your reply what it is that you feel makes you particularly qualified to comment.
I know it's very short notice but comments received before the afternoon of the date of posting of this message will be especially valuable to us. Please don't feel you can't comment after this time, though. All comments will be gratefully received whenever they might be made.
Many thanks in advance.

Re: Please rate the quality of this work
Hello John well what else is there to say apart from "awful", I'm a professional tiler (for nearly 30 years) and that has to be about as bad as I've seen!

Re: Please rate the quality of this work
not a very good job. looks like the tiler was in a rush, from the photos it does look like the work can be put right. you should get your tiler back to fix everything your not happy with. some photos of the full bathroom would help to give a better understanding of the work undertaken. I have been tiling for almost 25 years now. good luck

Re: Please rate the quality of this work
Hi John, my reputation speaks for itself in tiling. Check my website below.
Your pics show a total mess of a job, no right minded and skilled tiler would leave a bathroom like that.
Tell us where your from too and someone might get a better look for you.
Hope you parted with no money to the monkey?

Re: Please rate the quality of this work
hi John
I have been tiling on my own now since 2003 after 3 years working/training with a tiler.
the job you have had done looks to me as if it has been rushed without attention to detail
and mistakes have been left with a "that will do....the grout will hide that" attitude in my opinion, instead of being replaced ie the aluminium edging profiles.

Re: Please rate the quality of this work
Many thanks for all your comments, they've been extremely useful and I'm very grateful to everyone who took the time to look at the photographs and express an opinion.
My wife and I were horrified by the state of the tiling (and by other aspects of the job, especially the way the cork floor tiles were laid - they're lipped and there's a ridge under some of them, right by the door, and we're certain they're going to have to come up and be replaced). We needed a reality check from people who know their stuff, however, and you've certainly provided that.
As requested, I've taken four more photographs, general shots of the bathroom to put the detail into context, and have added them to the bottom of the web page.
The reason I particularly wanted comments before this afternoon was because the guy that owns the company who supplied the fitters is coming to take a look at the work and I was expecting him at any time after 12 o'clock. When I spoke to him on the phone yesterday his attitude was that he'd been there in the afternoon and the work had looked fine to him, so I was expecting him to attempt to bluster his way through my objections. He phoned a little while ago to say that he now wouldn't be able to get to me until tomorrow afternoon as he's very busy. I told him that that was totally unaceptable, that time is of the essence and that all I needed from him was his official statement as to whether or not he found the work acceptable and I'd then have no further need of his involvement as I didn't want any of his employees involved in the remedial work. As his company was sub-contracted to do the work by Wickes, who provided the bathroom furniture, they will provide other fitters to put the mess right. His attitude changed somewhat on hearing that and he then said that he could still make it today but that it would be quite a bit later.
Wickes have been very good, assuring me that we're covered by their guarantee and that as soon as the individual in question has had his say their contract manager will come and look at the work, give his opinion and authorise the remedial work as necessary.
Hillhead > I live in Yateley, in N.E. Hampshire. Hopefully we won't need anyone to come and take a look in person once Wickes' contract manager has examined the work but thanks for asking.

Re: Please rate the quality of this work
Erm, I'm (very) new to the tiling game and there is no way I would be happy with that, not as a tiler and definately not as a customer. It looks like there has been no prior prep with regard to layout, hence the mess of unaligned tiles in the corner. Poor finishing too. Hope you can get it sorted.

Re: Please rate the quality of this work
Latest update:
Wickes has, on the strength of the photographs I took, agreed to put the work right. They're as horrified by them as you've all been and don't need the opinion of the sub-contract company's boss to proceed.
I'm also told that they've never heard of the fitter who actually did our work. This has not pleased them as they pass work on to companies on the understanding that the work will only be carried out by people whose work has been vetted by them. I get the feeling that there's a company out there who won't be getting any more work from Wickes!

Re: Please rate the quality of this work
To say that work is poor is an understatement.
Not even sure that any remedial work will suffice due to the way its been set out,i personally would be demanding it all be re-done.
Been tiling 20 + years.

Re: Please rate the quality of this work
If I had my QS snagging book on me, and listed the faults it wouldnt matter the final word would....the word is CONDEMNED.
There is no arguement, no discussion the workmanship is lazy, and whoever did it should be ashamed of theirselves.

Re: Please rate the quality of this work
Glad to hear Wickes are sorting it out. Very shocking tiling. Nice inch grout line next to another a couple of mm. I'd have flipped my lid if I walked into that as a customer.

Re: Please rate the quality of this work
IT is good that they are sorting it but they should have some procedures in place as this should never have been allowed to get to this stage in the first place
