Hi there,i am thinking of painting over the tiles that are on the wall in my blocked up fire place.what kind of prep and paint would you guys suggest?i want to finish the job with a nice shine,how would i do that?i have asked friends but i would rather hear from you pros,id trust that advice more lol.

never seen a painted tiled walll yet that I would recommend. Retile if poss because the finished result is far better

you can clean them down with sugarsoap and eggshell or gloss them lay off well finishing with gentle cross strokes
they will look like painted tiles but thats your personal choice
I know nothing I havent learnt

Just out of interest are they original tiles to the fireplace or more modern? If they are originals I would say that you might have a very pleasant surprise once you take the trouble to clean them up. Certainly in any case I would agree that painting them will not result in a very pleasing finish.
