Tanking or skimming plasterboard?
Hello folks.
We're having a bathroom and ensuite retiled and have put up normal 12.5mm plasterboard. I've just discovered backerboard and tanking but it's now too late to rip off the plasterboard as I'm not in charge of the project and my dad is set in his way - once it's on, it ain't coming off!
To prevent any further ruination would it be best to tank the bath area (bath has a shower over it in both rooms) with BAL wp1 and then use a primer, then an adhesive to tile onto the walls? Or if we skim the plasterboard would this make it waterproof?
Thanks for any input on this.

Instructions will be on the tanking kit regarding priming..

Re: Tanking or skimming plasterboard?
As Whitbeam says just tank the shower area, seal it to the bath and tile onto plasterboard - plasterboard has a better weight tolerance than plasterskim and you won't need to wait for the skim to dry before you can tile it!

Re: Tanking or skimming plasterboard?
as all above , i would also opt for a white powdered adhesive over the ready mixed adhesive,if there is any bounce in the walls choose a flexy adhesive as well

Re: Tanking or skimming plasterboard?
Check the weight of the tiles you are using to make sure the plasterboard, skimmed or not will take the weight. The following links should help.
