Wrong Adhesive
I have just tiled a floor for a WC using tubbed adhesive, but I have just realised that the adhesive is for walls.
The tiles are ceramic and the floor is concrete. The room is only v small (3 tiles by 5 tiles).
Will I need to pull up the floor and start again or will it be okay?

Re: Wrong Adhesive
Hi unregistered,
That's a bit of a pickle.. Tubbed adhesives don't tend to dry particularly quickly, so you might be able to get all the tiles up, wash them off and start again with a cement based powdered adhesive.
How big are the tiles you have put down? And have you grouted yet?
Thanks

Re: Wrong Adhesive
as above rip them up quick and you can scrape of and use a cement bagged adhesive to put them down again!

Re: Wrong Adhesive
definitely get them up....

Re: Wrong Adhesive
You need to wash the tiles down as well...no contamination of the tubbed adhesive needed..then re-stick with cement based adhesive.

Re: Wrong Adhesive
(Perhaps not so) Interesting story: Was stripping a hall a few months back, and on examining the adhesive, it looked like the tiles were stuck with tubbed adhesive onto plywood. The joke was, the tiles were still alright after 8 years until I forcibly disturbed them.
Best lifting them now while they're still soft though.

Re: Wrong Adhesive
I have come home and tried to move a tile, but it won't budge!
I though that was a good sign until I read your replies, should I risk trying to jemmy them up or should I say a prayer to the tile god every time I step on them?
Just measured them they are a bit bigger than 315 -ish does that make a difference?
And the room they are in is like an oven

Re: Wrong Adhesive
Tubbed adhesive will dry provided the moisture ( H2o ) can dry out. this will take a bit longer than with a cement based product but none the less it will work in "most" cases provided it isn't put on to thick or on to a wet or non porous back ground.
what size trowel did you use - was the slab clean & dry - have you got another loo to use temporarily.

Re: Wrong Adhesive
If it's your own house treat it as an experiment, you can always lift them later, but out of sheer curiosity i'm sure at least half the forum would like to see the out come, the rest either already know or don't care.
If it's a paying customer take them up and re fit using the correct adhesive.

Re: Wrong Adhesive
Take them up if any water was to get to the adhesive it would break down leaving a more difficult problem to rectify
