Default Advice required Floor Tiling Using Marmol & Quartz Tiles

This is my first posting and I'm hoping some kind soul can help a female in distress!!
All DIY jobs in my house were done by my father (who has since passed away). This week I saw some lovely blue quartz tiles (not the cheapest!) and knew they'd be ideal for the downstairs cloakroom.

I now need to pay a tiler to fit these tiles, but so far I have had conflicting advice. The floor in the room (which is only 2x1 metre square) is a conti-board floor. The room only has a radiator, WC and pedestal sink. My plan is to have the WC and pedestal removed the floor tiled and the WC and pedestal replaced. Now, out of the 2 quotes I have received, one quoted £60 to do the job and the other £240. The first didn't inspire me with confidence, but the 2nd one told me I'd needed to put down ply on top of the conti-board (not included in his quote) and it would be a better job just to tile around the WC and pedestal. The first bloke made no mention of requiring ply.

I am hoping someone here can help me and tell me in simple terms what a "qualified tiler" would on average charge for such a job, what type of floor these tiles can be tiled onto and what type of grout/adhesive should be used. With this information I can then have a better understanding of what I am told if and when I try and get other quotes - this whole experience has left me extremely confused!

Thanks for reading and I hope someone understands what this 40 something is wittering on about!
    Kindest regards

might be nice to introduce yourself first forty something, anyway, we don't discuss price in the public forums, but we can talk you through our views on the installation! Personally, Id remove all potware, then overboard your conti board with 6mm hardie backer board, (single part flexible adhesive and screws to fix to your conti floor) then tile and grout, again using a single part flexible adhesive and a flexible grout. Finally replace your potware

why dont you become a member of the forum and partiocipate a little and introduce yourself as Doug says then people might be a little more forthcoming rather than just 'using' THE FORUMS?

When you say don't tile -what do you mean? Sorry I'm a complete idiot when it comes to DIY. This house is a relatively new build and most of the neighbours have tiles in at least one room, can someone explain why laying 18 30cmx30cm tiles will be such a problem?

So sorry for all the questions, and yes I will register, I thought this question would be a straigtforward one - but it's looks like I've opened up a whole new can of worms.

    Confused 40 something from Edinburgh!
    Regards

a floating floor is a floor that is not attached to floor joists, it just sits on top of the floor joists, typically "floating" on expanded polystyrene insulation, "Kingspan" type boards

Thanks Doug and no worries re pricing I only mentioned it as the 2 quotes I had were so far apart I was confused. Money isn't the problem, I'm more than happy to pay for a job well done, it's knowing that the job will be well done and now at least I have a few tips if and when I get round to another quote.

    Kind regards.

OK thanks, but why can't I just use ply and then tile? The room is only 1x2m² - so not huge by any stretch and jusy a wee simple downstairs toilet.

There are only 2 of us in the house so not a lot of wear and tear.

Still confused, but hopefully getting there now....
