Default Which Tile Cutter and adhesive?

I am a reasonably competent DIYer and previously have tiled my own kitchen and bathroom using ceramic tiles and a cheapo electric tile cutter from B & Q.

I am now going to tile my extension with 45cm x 45cm porcelain floor tiles and wonder if I should cut them with my old cutter or upgrade it with a new one. I've seen one in Screwfix, an Erbauer that's on sale and wondered if that's any good. My budget is a paltry £50 for a new cutter.

I've never got on well with the score and snap cutters.

Also, which adhesive would you recommend for 45cm x 45cm porcelain?

The tiles are going onto concrete (32m2). The porcelain tiles are glazed and my previous experience with glazed tiles, albeit ceramic tiles, when I hired a manual cutter was that they never cut in a straight line.

So you wouldn't recommend the Erbauer 720W Tilecutter currently on sale at Screwfix. I don't want to go out and buy an expensive cutter for an one off job.

what about hiring a decent cutter from a local plant hire depot, if it's a one off job it'll certainly be a viable option

Glazed porcelain can be a bugger without a decent cutter. They're much stronger than ceramic, and the glaze chips with crap blades. I'd change the tiles mate if ya only got the fifty. Get an easier tile to cut, (Travertine can look good) and then spend 30 quid on a cutter you can buy anywhere, and 20 on a replacement blade . Save you a lot of pacing about mate.

What about a Rubi Star 50N Plus? Would that be any good? If price was not an option, what tile cutter would you recommend for cutting glazed porcelain? I've already bought the tiles, so need sensible advice please.

no cutter that costs £30 is worth buying. do as doug says and hire one for a one off job, by the way if your tiles, adhesive and grout cost you say £400 ( and you will need bonding and flexible products ) if it all goes wrong and comes up you will be out of pocket, why not let a pro do it for you..............just a thought but good luck anyway

I think I will go down the professional route and just hire someone. To be honest, the time I save in someone else doing it is worth it.

    Thanks for all your replies
